Founder, DRY Soda · Co-founder & CEO, Second Sip

Twenty years building consumer brands. Here’s what I’ve learned.

I’m Sharelle Klaus. I spent twenty years building DRY Soda from my kitchen into a nationally distributed, much-loved independent beverage brand. We grew into one of the fastest-growing CSDs and longest-lasting independent beverage brands in the industry, earned national placements with major retailers, helped create an entirely new beverage category and sold more than 100 million bottles and cans along the way. Those twenty years gave me an education in building and sustaining a consumer brand that I couldn’t have gotten any other way.

Today, I’m applying everything I learned to Second Sip, the spirits company I co-founded, and I’m realizing just how valuable those two decades of experience have been. I know how to work with retailers, distributors, brokers and investors. I know where to spend, where to pull back, how to protect margins and how to recognize opportunities before they pass. More than anything, I know how to turn a good idea into a real business.

Seeing how much that experience is shaping the way we’re building Second Sip has made me want to share it. I’m excited to work with founders, investors and companies who can benefit from all that I’ve learned over the last two decades, helping them make smarter decisions, avoid costly pitfalls and build brands that last.

What I do now

Experience that makes a difference.

For investors

I help investors see beyond the pitch and understand how a consumer brand actually operates. Twenty years of building distribution, managing margins and working with buyers, brokers and investors helps me identify what has real potential, what needs attention and where the next opportunity might be.

For founders

I know what it’s like to turn an idea into a product people love, win national accounts and build a business one market at a time. I can help you make better decisions about distribution, pricing, partners, capital and where to focus next.

The work behind the advice

Twenty years building DRY. A new chapter with Second Sip.

DRY Soda Co.

Founder & CEO, 2005–2025

I started DRY in my Seattle kitchen with $15,000 borrowed against my house and four unlikely flavors: lavender, lemongrass, rhubarb and kumquat. Over twenty years, we built a national brand, reached millions of consumers and helped make adult non-alcoholic drinks a real category. DRY closed in late 2025, but the brand and the people who loved it are an enormous part of what I’m proud to have built.

Second Sip

Co-founder & CEO, 2025–

Second Sip is a 20% ABV London Dry-style gin that makes a proper martini with half the alcohol. I started it with Leo Robitschek and Nick Strangeway, and we launched in New York in 2025. It’s exciting to build again with two exceptional partners and apply everything I learned about product, distribution and building a company for the long term.

Where I can help

Where my experience can help.

  1. 01

    Before the check clears

A brand can look terrific in a deck. I look at the things that will determine its future: real consumer demand, repeat orders, channel economics, distributor support and whether the team knows how to turn distribution into a lasting business.

  2. 02

    When growth stops adding up

I’ve managed the costs behind national expansion, from freight and promotions to brokers and distributor margins. I can help identify which investments are paying off, which need adjusting and where growth can become more profitable.

  3. 03

When the distributor won’t call back

I’ve spent two decades working with both DSD distributors and national ones like KeHE and UNFI, as well as brokers and retailers. I understand their priorities and how to build relationships that create opportunities for everyone, not just another brand asking for shelf space.

  4. 04

When the hard decision is overdue

I’ve made major decisions about products, channels, teams, spending and strategy. Experience has taught me to recognize when a plan needs to change and how to make those changes with a clear view of the business and its future.

What experience has taught me

“Fear is a very good motivator, so I am always just a little bit afraid.”

Me, to Inc. in 2011. Still true.

Building DRY for twenty years taught me that winning a placement is only the beginning. The real work is earning repeat purchases, taking care of partners and building margins that support the business. I’ve had the rare chance to see how those decisions play out over time, and that perspective shapes how I approach every opportunity now.

I’m an optimist, and I always have been. We started with lavender soda when retailers barely knew where to put it, and we built a brand people loved. I believe in ambitious ideas. I also believe the best ones deserve smart execution, patient market building and a willingness to keep learning.

Whether it’s an advisory role, a board seat or a specific business problem, I’d love to hear what you’re working on.
